To ensure a smooth and consistent run, this race has implemented wave starts.
What is a wave start and how does it work?
Wave starts are designed to reduce race start congestion and improve your race day running experience. In a wave start, runners start in groups at 2 minute intervals. This way you can run with others who are similar in speed. A wave start will allow you plenty of space along the course, at the aid stations and at the finish line, without affecting your chip time or the time you have to complete the race. On race day you will line up under / behind the banner that best fits your estimated running pace per mile, see chart below.
2017 Lake Balboa Race Series!
This race is part of the NEW 2017 Lake Balboa Race series. Three great races at the famous Lake Balboa bike path at Woodley Park.
When you finish all three races you will be awarded a special SERIES FINISHER MEDAL!
Miles of beautiful scenery along the all flat Lake Balboa bike path. Checkout wildlife at the lake as you run past ducks and geese that call the lake home. And yes, you can mix the race distances as long as you complete all three race dates. Register for all three races here and save $10

Weekend warriors / walkers :
Yes, very walker friendly course, mostly flat, plenty of aid stations, and loads of fun! Generous 4:00 hour time limit so take your time and enjoy the scenery, all levels of fitness are welcome at our events.
Middle of the pack runners:
Great course for a new PR (personal record) this year. All flat course, plenty of room to make your move towards your PR
Elite and Advanced runners:
This all flat course along bike path is a great way to test your mid year speed. And with wave starts you can get to your top speed right out of the gate!
